This 28th Sunday's readings give us a clear message: God prepares a feast for His people - lavish, undeserved, overflowing, and He invites everyone to come.
Isaiah proclaims a mountain where God Himself sets a banquet of rich food and choice wines, wipes away tears, and destroys death forever. St. Paul, writing from prison, speaks of a deeper feast, - the peace of Christ that sustains him in every circumstance. And Jesus, in the Gospel, tells the parable of the king who prepares a wedding banquet for his son: a feast ready, abundant, waiting and yet many ignore the invitation.
The feast is ready, but are we? The readings confront us with a gentle but urgent truth: God's generosity is never the problem, it is our readiness. The banquet is set, the invitation is given and the doors are open. But the question remains: Will we show up with grateful hearts? Will we clothe ourselves in the "wedding garment" of faith, humility, and conversion? This weekend, our parish has a unique grace: we have just lived our own "banquet" in last week's 37th Harvest Festival. What we experienced together, — families laughing, volunteers serving, ministries collaborating, visitors feeling welcomed — was more than an event. It was a sign of God's abundance in our midst.
Like the king in the Gospel, God invited our whole parish family to gather, and you responded with joy, sacrifice, and generosity. The hot weather did not dump our spirit of unity. Your generosity became the "wedding garment" of our parish — visible, beautiful, and pleasing to God.
St. Paul reminds us today: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13) This is the posture of a grateful hear, not entitlement, not complaint, but trust. So today, we pause to say:
Thank you. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for serving. Thank you for giving. Thank you for making our parish a place where God's feast is visible, tangible, and joyful.
If this year's Harvest Festival was a sign of God's generosity, then next year is a promise waiting to unfold. The God who sets the banquet in Isaiah, the God who strengthens Paul, the God who invites all to the wedding feast is the same God who will lead us into next year's 38th Harvest Festival with even greater blessings.
But we should always remember that it is not because of luck, not because of chance, but because God delights in pouring out abundance on a grateful people. The feast is ready, the invitation is renewed. And our parish, strengthened by last week's joyful celebration, is ready to walk toward the abundant feast God has prepared.
