Finding Christ in Parish Ministry

August 8, 2026On August 23rd, Sunday is our Ministry Fair. You are invited to take a look and hopefully get involved with our various ministries here in the parish. This week is a perfect moment to highlight how every ministry in the parish becomes an extension of Christ’s steadying hand.
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Peter steps out of the boat because he recognizes the voice of Jesus. He begins to sink only when fear overwhelms his focus. Yet Jesus immediately reaches out, lifts him, and restores him. This is the movement of discipleship: hearing the call, stepping forward, faltering, and being lifted again. This rhythm is also the heartbeat of parish life. Every ministry—seen or unseen—becomes a place where Christ’s hand reaches out through His people.
Ministries are places of courage and encounter. Each ministry in the parish mirrors a moment in today’s Gospel. They are not tasks; they are encounters with Christ.- Liturgical Ministries. Like Peter stepping toward Jesus, these ministries step forward publicly, helping the community hear Christ’s voice and see His presence in the Eucharist. Their service strengthens the faith of the whole community in worship.
- Music Ministry. In the storm, Jesus speaks, “Take courage.” Music becomes that same voice—lifting hearts, calming anxieties, and helping the community pray even when life feels turbulent.
- Welcoming and Hospitality Ministry. They are the outstretched hand of Christ at the door, welcoming each person who arrives with their own storms. Their warmth reminds parishioners: You belong. You are safe. You are seen.
- Catechists & Faith Formation. Like Jesus teaching His disciples, they help others recognize Christ’s voice. They form hearts that can step out of the boat with confidence.
- Outreach & Social Concerns. These ministries meet people in the waves of despair, loneliness, and hardship. Their work is Christ’s hand lifting those who are sinking.
- Youth & Young Adult Ministry. They help young people discover courage in a world full of noise and fear. They teach them to listen for Christ’s voice amid the storm.
- Prayer Groups & Spiritual Support. These ministries anchor the parish in faith. Their intercession is the quiet strength that keeps the community focused on Christ rather than the wind.
- Communities and Behind-the-Scenes Volunteers. Often unrecognized, they are like the disciples rowing against the wind—faithful, steady, essential. Their dedication keeps the parish moving forward.
Today’s Gospel is not only about Peter—it is about us. Jesus still speaks: “Take courage, it is I.” Every ministry becomes a response to that invitation. Every act of service becomes a step out of the boat. And every moment of weakness becomes an opportunity for Christ to lift us again. The storm does not define us because His voice does.
