This weekend's readings give us an urgent message: God entrusts His vineyard to us, and He expects us to bear fruit—fruit that reflects His justice, His mercy, and His love. As St. Paul reminds the community in Philippi in the second reading, "Make your requests known to God… then the peace of God will guard your hearts." (Philippians 4:6) And Jesus, in the Gospel, tells the parable of the landowner whose tenants refused to produce the harvest entrusted to them. The tragedy of the parable is not simply their violence, but their refusal to recognize the gift they were given and the responsibility that came with it.
Today, as one parish community celebrating the 37th Harvest Festival, this message becomes beautifully concrete. Our theme, "One Body, Many Gifts," is not just a slogan; it is the spiritual antidote to the failure of the tenants in the Gospel. Where they withheld, we share; where they rejected the master's messengers, we welcome one another; where they produced nothing, our parish produces abundance: generosity, service, joy, fellowship, and faith.
God has planted His vineyard here in Chino Hills. He has entrusted ministries, families, cultures, talents, and opportunities to us. He has given us many gifts, not to hide or hoard, but to cultivate and offer back to Him.
Every booth, every volunteer, every donation, and every smile at the Harvest Festival is a sign that we are choosing to bear fruit. We are choosing to be the kind of tenants who recognize the Master's Son and welcome Him with open hearts.
Each ministry, each volunteer and each family participating this weekend is a living testimony that the vineyard is thriving.
The Gospel ends with a sober warning: the vineyard will be given to those who will produce its fruit. This is not meant to frighten us; it is meant to awaken us. Our parish is blessed with many gifts, but gifts become fruit only when they are shared.
May this weekend renew our sense of belonging, our desire to serve, and our gratitude for the gifts God has entrusted to us. May our 37th Harvest Festival not only raise funds but also raise hearts. May it not only gather crowds but gather disciples. May it not only celebrate our parish but celebrate the God who makes all things grow. And may the peace of Christ, promised by St. Paul, guard our hearts as we continue building a parish where every gift is welcomed, every person is valued, and every harvest is offered back to God.
